Adjusting Fleet Sizes

Why Adjust Fleet Sizes?

Adjusting the fleet sizes is only possible, and only relevant, when running "Promotion/Relegation" or HMS regatta.

For example, the HMS 2022 specification from the UK MYA uses only 1 seeding race. If there were, for example, 3 fleets, there would be 3 first places, 3 second places etc. and if the A Fleet had 10 skippers assigned it would not be possible to fairly decide who should start in A. certainly the 9 1st 2nd & 3rd palce winners, but which 4th place finisher would be the lucky one? In this case it is desired all except the final fleet contain a multiple of the number of seeding fleets. In the example above that might mean 9 skippers in A, 9 in B and the rest (maybe 15) in C. Then, after race 2 there can be more balanced fleets 10, 10 and 13 for example. There are other situations that can occur also where several boats have withdrawn, so the actual number of boats sailing in the lowest fleet becomes very small, and assigning more to that fleet will actually balance the fleet sizes that actually sail.

How to Adjust Fleet Sizes

  1. In HMS (Promotion/Relegation) regattas before adding a race tap the button "Adjust Fleetsizes for Next Race"
  2. Adjust the numbers for fleets as needed on pop up and the final fleet size will change to accommodate the remaining skippers
  3. When the fleets are at desired levels, tap Save
